Hoover Wonderful Wednesday

Today was a fabulous day at Hoover. Students from Ms. Timm's room worked on using text features to enhance their Genius Hour presentations. They are enjoying the process of editing and revising using a checklist. Team Imagine is continuing to examine the mystery genre of reading. Working with two small groups of students, we practiced writing, and telling, concise summaries of our favorite memories or daily lives. Team Endurance is learning about the relationship between division and multiplication, so Ms.Sossong and I looked at student needs and selected their next project based learning unit today! Students will work in scaffolded groups to start and run a business! This will be accomplished through the use of division and multiplication relationships. I also enjoyed engaging with students while they worked on their book creator projects. We are glad she's back!

Ms. Geertsen's PBL unit about poetry was the highlight of the day! Students were asked to walk around the "art gallery" of Hoover and make observations about feelings, emotions and memories or connections to various art pieces. Then, using their observations, students began to construct a piece of poetry. These pieces have surpassed our goals by far! They are so creative and detailed, and I really enjoyed conferring with students as they wrote. I can't wait for Friday when we host our poetry jam day and share out our hard work.
